Earthbound Episode 7: Nightmare Rock (Part 1)

In this first half of the final episode, Ness travels deep within himself and faces his own worst nightmares.

We’re one step closer to the end! The first half of the final episode of our long-gestating mini-series based on the Super Nintendo game Earthbound has finally been released.

This episode was originally filmed in the summer of 2012, but we repeatedly shelved it over the years in favor of other projects (some of those projects being other in-progress parts of the Earthbound series). This was also one of the first projects to be shot with our then-new Canon T3i camera.

After completing Earthbound Episode 6, we finally dove into properly editing this episode and putting it through post-production, in fits and starts. Some notable, new things we tried for this episode include building Magicant out of real-life miniatures, rather than using computer-generated imagery; we also went to a motion-capture studio in Wichita, Kansas (courtesy of connections from Robert Thomas) to record the animation for the Mani-Mani statue fight.

We hope you all enjoy this latest segment of the Earthbound adventure! Please let us know what you think! The enthusiasm for us to see this project through to the end, even all these years later, is flattering, encouraging, and appreciated!
